Microsoft shows the world Windows 8

Allthingsd.com got the exclusive on the new Windows 8 with Windows President Steven Sinofsky at D9, so what did they find out!?

First of all, Windows 8 is designed to work on everything from an 8-inch tablet to a high spec desktop pc with oversized monitor(s). The company didn’t want to feel that there had to be compromises depending on what type of computer you are running the operating system(OS) on.
The new OS is very much like the one currently found on the Windows phone 7, with a touch sensitive tile based layout. This allows it to run on mobile phones and tablet PCs, but also in the classic point and click style of a Windows desktop. Internet Explorer 10 has already been in-built and features extensions and apps.

The new system has been in development since Windows 7 was released. Taking a lot of influence from the i-pad and mobile phone technology, Microsoft has found the holes it has need to fill, like touch sensitive technology and apps. Care has been taking to accommodate the new touch screen technology into the previously existing desktop style, with a less precise click needed for fingers than you would for a mouse.
“The goal, says chief designer Julie Larson-Green, is that classic apps, though designed for a keyboard and mouse, work well with touch. Apps taking advantage of the new programming layer, she said, are designed for touch first, but also work well with a keyboard and mouse.” (allthingsd.com)

The new OS should also be compatible with all current technology. Windows 7, when it came out, did not need the new system requirements to run as many previous updates had demanded, and this is set to continue with Windows 8.

When Windows 8 will be released to the world, we don’t know, but we will keep an eye on it! Will it have more competition than ever before though?
